There are players who pass through, and then there are men who stay forever. Sinisa Mihajlović is part of the second category: one of those who didn't just wear the shirt, but loved it, honoured it and made it legendary.
Arriving at Lazio in 1998, in an era of dreams and ambitions, Sinisa brought with him his strong personality, his magical left foot and that grit that made every opponent tremble. In a few years he became a pillar of that team which made history: the Serie A triumph in 2000, the Cup Winners' Cup in 1999, the Supercoppas, and so many nights of pure magic.
But above all, the Laziali remember the sound that ran around the Olimpico every time the ball was placed on the penalty spot or twenty-five metres out:
"E se tira Sinisa… è gol!" (And if Sinisa shoots… it's a goal!)
It wasn't just a phrase, it was a certainty. His free kicks were pure art, power and precision fused in a single gesture. Like that legendary hat-trick from set pieces against Sampdoria in 1998, or the thunderbolts struck in derbies and European challenges: every shot of his was a feather in the cap of his career and a gift to the Biancocelesti hearts.
Mihajlović loved Lazio and he showed it until the very end, even after hanging up his boots. In his interviews, he never missed a word of affection for Rome, for the Curva, for that fanbase that always considered him one of their own.
Today, the memory of Sinisa is not only that of a great player, but of a man of principle, courage and humanity. His example goes beyond the pitch: a fighter until the end, a symbol of strength and dignity.
For us Laziali, Mihajlović will never be just a name etched in the statistics or in a line-up to remember: he will always be a living part of our history.
Because time passes, seasons change, but certain emotions remain carved forever.
Sinisa Mihajlović – one of us, forever.
